I'm happy to hear that you all love your Pumas! I am so excited for my first trip with this bag--I expect to be toasty warm :) I feel really lucky to have been able to get this bag, and I'll certainly report back when I finally get the chance to test it out there in below 0 weather. Thanks...

Acadia National Park 10/28 to 10/30 Trip Report

Jamie, fantastic trip report and your photos are stunning! I had such an incredible weekend up in Acadia with you all--with the brilliant scenery and the most wonderful company, it was hard to go wrong. I loved meeting more VFTT folk for the first time! I checked Geddy's website, and didn't...

Early Notice - my 48th Moosilauke, Oct 30th... in costumes

Pumpkin Pie and Chocolate Spiders??? Sounds Heavenly!! I'm sorry to say that I'll also be up in Acadia this weekend (I know, this excuse is getting old...), but I can't wait to hear all about it, and especially see the photos! Congratulations, Miriam :) -katie

    Western Mountaineering Puma -15

thanks for your replies...the more I hear about WM's repuation, the more confident I am with my choice. I know it's all pretty individual anyway--what works for one may not work for another. I will have fleece layers along with a down jacket I can always add if needed. Also, if I anticipate...

    Western Mountaineering Puma -15

Does anyone have a Western Mountaineering Puma -15?? I was able to purchase one today for a pretty good deal, but am worried that -15 is not warm enough. The bag had a narrower cut than the WM Bighorn -25, which felt huge on me, mostly width-wise (I'm about 5'7"). I have spent cold nights in...

Waumbek via Starr King - Oct 16

With the wonderfully descriptive trip report posted above, there is not much more that I need to add! I really enjoyed Waumbek's quiet, subtle beauty. It wasn't one of those peaks that has views that astound you (even if it was, we wouldn't have seen them!), but it has an understated beauty I...

    Post Hike Depression?

I wouldn't call it depression in my case, but it certainly requires some re-adjustment...every single time! Especially during this fall, as I have been hiking much more frequently than ever before. I LOVE being outdoors, in the mountains, in nature, and I don't get to hike as much as I would...

"Pound the Presis" - Presi travese to benefit TBTS

If I can actually hike as much as I want to this winter and spring, sign me up for this one! I contemplated doing a Presi Traverse this past summer, but didn't go for it because I didn't feel prepared enough physically. But, if all goes well, I should be ready by next June! And I'm always up...

    I had a (NE) ball with Cannon! -- 10/5/05

This is why I need to move to New Hampshire someday (or really just live near any decent-sized mountains)...so I can go hiking after work (my dream!!). Great trip report and photos, and I know what you mean about coming back to a place you hiked years before, only to find that it wasn't so hard...

    Mt. Hale - 10/1/2005

Another great trip report, Michael. This trail was just the best...easy grade, beautiful views, diverse ecology, and a much more wild appearance than I'm used to...I will always love some of the most popular trails in the Whites like the Franconia Ridge, Crawford Path, and 19 mile brook trail...

Hiking the 48, a long strange trip!

Blue, Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the 48...being exactly halfway there myself, I can identify with your sentiment that the journey to the completion of the 48 list is a long, wonderful one, filled with different stages, people, and a variety of memorable experiences--both fun and...

    Franconia Ridge Traverse - Oct 2, 2005

Excellent trip report, MichaelJ--you captured it all! I loved meeting so many VFTTers that day, even running into a couple more up on the ridge. The views were just spectacular...I didn't take any photos of my own, but thankfully I was hiking with people like MEB and Michael with wonderful...

    Mt. Monadnock 10/1

What more could anyone ask for? Nothing! I have been up Monadnock many times, but have always wanted to hike up the Pumpelly Trail. You writing about the experience was quite motivating...sounds like a great trail and maybe I'll be able to get there this fall! I was out hiking this past...

Information on Mount Hight in New Hampshire

Mt. Height is so far the only mountain that I've hiked up to in the dark to see the sunrise from the top--and wow, talk about views from the top! I highly recommend seeing the sunrise or sunset from this mountain--it is an experience I will never forget. -katie

    #67 - Mt Mansfield 9/17/05

Great Photos Periwinkle and Coldfeet! I especially loved the one early on you called "seasons change" with the fallen autumn leaves on the wet ground, and of course all of the great summit shots. When I get back to Mansfield some day so I can see the VFTT, maybe I'll hike up your way--looked...
