Wind River Range, Wyoming info needed

Pocket Rocket should work fine. I used a denatured alcohol stove for the trip and it worked acceptably, tho it required more fuel than usual. This was in September, and temperature at dinner time was probably in the 50s/40s. As for acclimating, everyone is different. After several trips out...

Have you been diagnosed with Giardia?

I got it, and hiked with it for a month because my symptoms were not that bad. I had heard of all these horrible stories, but the truth is that symptoms can be all over the board. Something like 50% of the population can get it and feel no effects. Flagyl works nicely.

    Pound the Presis 6/17/06

Spongebob - that video was hilarious. What software did you use to put that together? Thanks everyone for a great day and for some many great photos. I have some photos that I'll try to get up this week, but I didn't take a whole lot, especially towards the end of the day.

"Pound the Presis" - Presi travese to benefit TBTS

That SUCKS!! Very glad to hear that Shizz is OK. Hopefully the a-hole that hit him has insurance, and after a long hassle, we can enjoy a new Shizzmobile completly outfitted by Mr Drunk Driver. I have the Love Wagon loaded up, and I am planning on getting there between 4-5. I don't have any...

"Pound the Presis" - Presi travese to benefit TBTS

OK - so I am really late in posting this, but I will be heading up to CMR tomorrow. I'll be bringing my Grill-2-Go, a 2 burner Coleman stove, propane, and my "kitchen in a box" that has plates, bowls, knives, etc... I'll also be bringing the "Love Wagon", so I can fit at least 6 other hikers...

    Alone with Demons

Been There, Done That, Got the T-Shirt I know exactly what you are talking about, Abster. I don't worry for my personal safety quite as much, but I have been known to get stuck inside my head when solo for the weekend. I'll get all wrapped up about something and I won't be able to get out of...

Lousy beer, polygamists...ahh, Utah! Part 1

Great photos and report guys. It was cool to see photos of places that I haven't been inside places that I have been. Did that make any sense? When VSA and I went to Zion for a day in March, we were driving around wondering what the bushwhacking opportunities would be in that park. My guess is...

A Real Pemi Loop -- Ever Been Done?

Well, I pulled a hammy on the way to my car, so I didn't quite make it. But I'll let it heal up and try it again later. Thanks for the idea!

    contacts or glasses???

I wear daily contacts but I soak them at night and get a couple of weeks out of them. In general, I wear them until my eyes start to hurt. You would be shocked (SHOCKED!) to know that chemically, there is VERY little difference between dailys, weeklys and monthlys. My uncle is an eye doc and he...

    Got my Baxter reservations! whoooo-who!

Wow - I feel like a deadbeat since I NEVER know when people's birthdays are... I don't know about only raining at Gatherings, but its been a while since I have been to a Gathering with good weather. Even the Barnes Field get-together was plagued by rain. Seriously, congrats on the reservations...

    Got my Baxter reservations! whoooo-who!

Long term forcasts on http://www.weather.com are calling for torrential downpours and thunderstorms on those dates. The beds are comfy at least... :)

    Found Objects

You know how to tell the different between a day hiker, a section hiker and a thru-hiker? A day hiker sees a couple of M&Ms on the trail, kicks them into the woods and keeps hiking. A section hiker sees a couple of M&Ms on the trail, picks them up, brushes them off, and eats them. A...

    Found Objects

True story: I once found a stuff sack on the Davis Path containing an Altoid Tin full of pot, a glass bong (glass!?!) and a nice lighter. While I don't smoke the stuff (also true), my landlords at the time did. So I let them inspect the goods and I traded the stuff sack and all its contents for...

    barnes field fiesta

I agree - it was a great time at Barnes Field even if the weather didn't want to agree with us. VSA and I had a great hike over at Frankenstein Cliffs and Arathusa Falls - we even had some sun after the hail blew through!
