There's Gold in Then Thar Hills!

There was a broadcast article on this recently. I had to laugh. People from NYC were selling their multi-million dollar apartments and condos and buying property in Aroostook county for "cheap". They wanted a house anywhere in Maine, didn't care the condition. They interviewed a couple that...

Trail Trash in the Covid Era

No different than before. If I wasn't afraid of catching the flu from picking up trash, I'm not afraid of Covid. The fear and hype are way overblown.

    Owls Head river crossings...

That would be a solid NOPE! for me.

    Route 16 Closed this Weekend

I hate it in the Summer, not so bad in the Winter, or the off season

    Rescue on Black Angel Trail

Wet sleeping bags? Did they not have tents? Or were they using tarps and no bivy sacks? Jeez. Black Angel trail is one I enjoyed hiking while were were on it. Right where the trail takes a sharp right turn to go up the flank of the Carters a tree had fallen and we never saw the sharp turn. It...

    Snow

You are correct. I fixed it :D

    Snow

drove around the mountain yesterday after we drove down the Kanc and turned off into Bear Notch Road. Some of the higher peaks visible in Bear notch had snow covering them. We went looking for snow. Drove up through Crawford Notch and started seeing snow around Willey House. By the time we got...

    Eliza Brook Tentsites

I'm seeing large amounts of other people in areas I never seen anyone. I mean, I'm happy other people are getting out enjoying life and all, but jeez. NIMBY I keep hoping the snow and cold keep people away and I can get out by myself again

    Another Local Area Abused

That looks like it is the cumulative affect of people disrespecting property rights for several years. Sad, but probably necessary to block access to the public, because, in general, people suck.

Info on second recent Fatality on Katahdin

I'm guessing he was a thru-hiker who decided to climb regardless of the consequences. Too much above treeline exposure for someone not dressed for the conditions.

    Liner Glove Recommendation

I've found the Black Diamond gloves to be unisex sizing, so they tend to run small. So annoying. I've purchased 3 pairs of Rab liner gloves. I really like them. Rab Powerstretch, but not the ones with the textured palms and finders. I like a simple glove.

The Crockers and Redington from Rte. 27

I guess I'm fortunate to need to wear glasses to see. Usually when I'm hiking I'm wearing sport glasses that wrap around my face and eyes quite a bit.

Pemigewasett East Branch Logging Railroad Excursion 9/19/2020

safety meetings, ha! Thought that was legal in MH now?

The Crockers and Redington from Rte. 27

We hiked to Redington this Summer after a failed attempt 6 years ago in the rain and fog one October day. We couldn't find the herd path from the boundary trail. Now, its very obvious. My only complaint is whomever trimmed back the spruce branches must be about 8 inches shorter than me. I still...

Climber killed in climbing accident on Cannon Cliffs

Cannon Mountain is not stable. Its still decompressing from the last ice age. If I was younger and wanted to take up climbing, that's probably one mountain I'd avoid. There are plenty of other cliffs to climb that are stable.

Great article on Yvon Chouinard and the outdoor industry

Don't you find it ironic that Patagonia's clothing is made from old dinosaurs? I have no idea why NF would refuse to sell petroleum based clothing to petroleum producers. Seems like a match made in hell, to me. More Virtue signaling that has no real affect on global warming. Pandemic has done...

Great article on Yvon Chouinard and the outdoor industry

I like their "stuff". Its basically sized for an average skinny dude, who I no longer am, but if I buy a size larger, it fits pretty well.

Parts of Yosemite closing for Creek Fire, lucky the Whites have faired somewhat well

I spent the last week in Vermont. Its not exactly dry there, but drier than expected. Some of the streams on the Long Trail are at a trickle and the water sources are drying up. Still, I was able to find mud.

    History of Mount Willard trail?

Can you drive to Success Pond?

From the NH side, its splits off onto York Pond road, but its still barricaded off. From the Maine side, I can't remember if there were signs, or not, because I wasn't headed that way. When you come to Success Pond road from the Maine side, its a 270 right degree turn to head towards Success...
