    Hiking with my fellow Kinsmans

Out of anything I would choose to do immediately when given the first chance any day is to hike. The opportunity to climb deliberately with friends and ponder the past days of life’s madness is always relished. But what remains singularly the best thing about hiking and today in general was that...

thanks for bringing this to my attention, I know that there are other masters of the pen that are far more experienced than I, but I have submitted some things to Carol. If the mods don't object here is a small paragraph of a little thought: The Philosophy of Hiking The boots are tied up...

$25,000 fine assessed for teen hiker

A service project is tantamount to community service, its typically rendered to civic and non-profit organisations other than the scout's unit to teach the boys selfless service, leadership, and volunteerism.

$25,000 fine assessed for teen hiker

I think the SAR system in NH needs to be evaluated for its policies and ambiguous definitions of verbiage in its rules. My 2 cents on the matter. Let the Eagle Scout be admonished for a bad choice, if there was one, or like Little Rickie said a service project.

    This wet summer

Mark you have discerning tastes in your selection of light, dispersed light as you know makes a good photograph, if not an smashing work of art.

    This wet summer

I'm glad to read postive remarks about the weather. Through reading status updates on Facebook (where else?) here and there are some words of the wet weather and it being a damper on things, such is life. I think it's cool how some of us make due despite the circumstances and relish the puddles...

    Childhood Dream-Bagging ?

Chip, I still want to be one of those hikers you see out from the Cog rail car. I'll wave at the tourists, but maybe not moon them. That sticks out in my childhood, sans mooning :D

Patrick, Your pictures are delightfully sublime. Have you considered publishing them or selling matted prints yet? The Presidentials are such a great area to observe the flora and fauna and I'm so glad to see that you take the time to capture it all. Regards, Ridgewalker

Exploring Tunnel Ravine on Moosilauke 7/23/09

Always like the unexplored nooks, particularly the old abandoned trails. Perhaps that mystery pillar was the remains of one of the old hotels on the bottom. Thanks for sharing your travels Jason!

Baxter State Park SAR, in brief

As the saying goes, “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know,” played a key step in joining some of my friends from Maine, through my research for my book, “An American Original,” in a very interesting adventure at Baxter State Park. The plan was to come up to BSP on Friday, hike to Baxter...

What's your opinion of "Hiker Dies/Gets Lost" threads ?

I read them to remind myself of the mistakes that could be made even by the most experienced of hikers.
