New York does have more finishers, but they also have the largest population. (besides Canada) So for the percentage of the population Vermont has the most finishers. Of course you can play with any number and come to several conclusions.
PLACE FINISHED POPULATION % OF POP.

This is what I get out of this.....................
Vermont. It is centrally located and Vermonters have all that maple syrup for energy.
New Hampshire. New Hampshire has Seabrook nuclear power plant to produce mutant super hikers.
New York. George Steinbrenner has bought all the good hikers from the poor market hiking communities so he can win all the time.
Connecticut. Since everyone loses there money at Foxwoods casino, hiking is a cheaper activity.
Maine. Didn't finish so high on the list, as we have stuff to do. Like practice the words "wicked" and "ayhuh". And make fun of people "From Away".
Massachusetts. Should be higher on the list, but they are always flipping people off when they are driving. Hiking would cut into that activity.
New Jersey. They are only on the list because these people that have climbed the 111/115 are on the run from the mob. Watch out Tony Saprano is out to get you!
Pennsylvania. There poor showing as a population percentage can be explained that the favorite sandwich is a Philly Cheese steak. Too hard to lug around in a backpack.
Canada. Well HarryK is from there, so maybe these hikers were trying to get awya from him
