I really enjoy all the great pictures people post of the spring (and later) wildflowers.

I looked for a 2013 thread and didn't see one although last year's thread was started in mid-march.

As said last year by w7xman

Please join us this year, as the history of these threads provides an invaluable resource.

Enjoy the spring season!

I dont take pics, but this is always one of my favorite threads, looking foward to the new blooms, I learn alot from these pics.

Great shots, Nartreb! I think the turtles eyes are scaled over, just awakening from their winters sleep, similar to a snake's, they will open soon...

Speaking of awakening from winter sleep, I picked up two ticks yesterday in five minutes in the western suburbs (495 area) while checking on the trout lilies and (presumably planted) toadshades I've posted here before. The toadshades were budding, but there's no sign yet of the trout lilies. Both are at least a week behind last year.

Could be - I think I saw all three species in about the same spot last year. Yesterday I pointed my camera at some leaves that were too arrow-shaped to be Calla, but liked the light better on the shoot you see. Not sure now if these were the same species as what I saw when I first raised my camera.

Definitely arrow shaped leaves on the Arrowhead. Like a sharpened spade from a deck of cards... It grows on the shore in my backyard...

Comment from a novice: Pickerel weed grows in the same environments as these others and has a similar arrow-shaped leaf as well. The base of the leaf uncurling in the picture does not look quite right for pickerel weed but it's close. It will develop a purple bottle brush type flower if it is. I'm sure you're both familiar.

If any of you botanists/photograhers are interested, I posted a new thread in this forum to "Go Botany!" an online plant ID guide for all 3500 NE plant species. I shared some of the photos from the spring wildflower thread with one of the creators as they are looking to add more high quality photos to the guide. They have worked for about 4 years with 32 employees at a grant cost of 2.5 million to create this. She was impressed with the photos. If you would like to share any of them with the society for this project, you can find the contact info on the home page of this site:

If you would rather have Dr. Farnsworth's email, just PM me and I can send it to you.
