Ah, yah....miss a party, man????

I am hoping to be there. I haven't received even my acknowledgment yet (mailed my app. on 1/28). But, my bad with following the directions on the form I boosted from Mohammed's website -- I mailed it to Boston! Errrrr.... I was waiting to get at least the info in the mail before I made reservations (otherwise, I won't be able to get off this rock!), but I'm going to have to go ahead and book even if my application isn't processed in time. Wouldn't want to miss seeing you all!

I'd be willing to head up a large hiking group trip to the summit of North Mountain in Pawtuckaway State park.. it's 20 min from my house... 20 min from the awards venue.

I think I'd be up for this. Are you thinking of hiking Saturday ? How long a hike is this?

Also, any recommendations on where to stay ?

Saturday or Sunday is depenedent on when everyone else wants to go. Its fair game as far as I'm concerned.

Pawtuckaway is still officially closed for the seaso on this day, which means we'll all have to park in the main lot and walk the road down to the trail head.

From the Parking Lot The Mountain Trail trailhead is 1.2 miles in then it is about 3.5 Miles to the top of the SOUTH mountain which is 908' above Sea level equipped with a fire tower. The entire loop is roughly 9.4 miles. The terrain is failry easy compared to what most of us are used to.

winter 48 x 68

I finished the winter 48 today, so will plan to attend Awards affair.
I have trouble believing I've been blessed with good enough health to do it essentially in 2 seasons at age 68. I couldn't have done it without a LOT OF HELP from Carl Rosenthal's wise and gentile "Wednesday" group and Owl's Head and Bonds with NH Mountain Hiker of VFFT.

I'll be there with the Mrs! I finished the all season NH 48 last September :) :) . Can't wait to pick up the certificate and eat some pizza!!! I also put it on the calender a few months ago, so I'd remember too!! Now I just need to remember to mail it.........

Mine's in the works -- I got the acknowledgement last week. Have been anxiously watching the mail for patches ever since!

I guess I'd better plan on coming, if just to ask where the bleep my 111er patch is. I mailed in my info last September, e-mailed Eric S. thrice, still haven't heard a word back, the check remains uncashed...

And for those wondering, the check was in the same envelope as the New England 4Ks check, which was cashed in December. I've had that patch since New Year's, more or less, so I don't know—and can't imagine—what's become of the 111er acknowledgement.

Patches at event?

I sent in my list to Eric, but thought I could buy the patch at the Awards event. I know they sell lots of other stuff: T-shirts, books, advertise trail workdays etc. Don't they sell the patch to qualified people there?

Jane

Well..... I finished in 2002 but never sent anything in. Finally, I wrote that essay and have submitted all my stuff - not sure if it will be processed in time for the dinner, but I'm going anyway. Too many of my friends are getting their scrolls that night - sounds like it will be a fun party.

Chris,

I too finally got around to submitting my appls this year, and got a call from Eric last week re my finishing peaks (I neglected to indicate them on the apps).

I know he is working quite hard to get everyone's stuff processed by the April event, so I bet you will be included in the festivities (providing you sent your materials directly to Exeter rather than Joy Street).

I'll look for you in the pizza line!

Most of us who get the apps in early enough recieve their patches, with extras ordered, in the mail some time after sending in the apps.

They do however, sell the patches at the Awards dinner as well as shirts.

**Note: Got an e-mail this morning from Tom Sawyer and I am VERY HAPPY to announce that "48" is going to be shown at the awards dinner following a 15 min. break after the presentation of Scrolls. :D

I'll be there. Clayton and I finished our all season 48 on October 27th on Jefferson. Unfortunately I didn’t send in our applications till about two weeks ago because we had a delay with one of the essays (i.e. took forever to get Clayton to sit down and write one) so I probably won't get my award there. Can’t wait to talk to all those that are going. Is anyone bringing pictures?? I hope so!

Pictures! Wow, I could bring like 5,000 pictures! I'm serious! Hmmm, maybe I'll bring my laptop and set up a slide show...

Good idea!

In my opinion.. the best places to visit following the awards dinner and places to stay all lie in the Portsmouth, NH area roughly 15-20 min from the awards site.

So far, there is a pre-dinner hike at Pawtuckaway state park in Raymond, NH. I am going to research the possibility of holding an after gathering for VFTTopers in Portsmouth at the Red Hook Brewery following the awards dinner... anyone interested in this idea if I can pull some strings?

You bet!

There Sherpa John, you are sandwiched by the founders of Views and Brews! :)

The Reward is the ...

The Patch is the only reason.
We can't stand winter season.
The mountains look too bleak.
The birds too noisily speak.
Hikers who break trails are atrocious.
The snow makes the world look too gross.
We get ourselves in physical shape
To get a patch for all to gape! :p
