Thinking about climbing one of these tomorrow....

1 - moriah via carter-moriah trail/Gorham
2 - flume via osseo/lincoln woods
3 - kinsmans via mt. kinsman trail/116

It's only 2 of us, so I'm looking to avoid having to break too much trail. Any idea if any of the above three are broken out well at this point?

Thanks!

Well, I am going to assume you mean Carter-Moriah trail to Moriah, and if so that is probably your best candidate right now. Osseo is iffy, same with Mt. Kinsman trail. These last two are not really typical winter approach routes that the masses tend to tramp down, though there are enough oddballs that at any given time there is a possibility of it being broken out. Of course, with the Mt. Kinsman trail parking used to be a big problem and probably added to people not using it much. Now there is the new parking area for it, and if it is plowed than that could change this year.

i would think least likely would probably be osseo as many people would use liberty spring trail and hit liberty as well. kinsmans i think would be more likely to be broken out via fishin' jimmy from lonesome lake, but may be icy. with the new trailhead parking for the mt. kinsman trail this may no longer be the case assuming they are plowing it. as far as moriah goes, stony brook may be broken if carter-moriah isn't, though i've started up stony brook and found it well broken down low only to have tracks end and turn around before it starts to climb. i think local folks use it often as a low land hike/snowshoe.
have fun.
