After all day, yesterday to check the end of the rain, without end, early this morning Junior puh me outside of the bed. :(

Junior: " your cafe is ready, I print the maps and full your water bottles."

I saw a special light in his eyes, the same light I saw only one time before, when We are on the Hood mountain near devil kitchen and Junior tell me :I saw a dragon now I understand why We can snif the old eggs!"

I am thinking, O.K. I need to prepare me for a long day!!

We started from Lodge parking before 6 o'clock on a hard snow, with head lamp but warm and windy condition. We used the high water bridge before Phelps and the double roofs(falling tree !) bridge to cross Indian Fall brook.

After this place 1" of new powder in the trail. Before the trees line Junior tell me: "Stop! We need to take a bearing between Marcy & Gray". We enter in the cloud and the wind stop us a couple of time. We can not check the clock on Marcy top too windy!!

We catched the col Marcy-Gray and bypassed the first bump by the left and summited Gray in the cloud. The fun with the snow condition are: We can past everywhere....nice. :)

We started by usual path to go down Gray, but lose it when We go up, but We arrived directly in Lake of Tears.

At 4 corners when I try to remove my pack to go up in Skylight direction, Junior tell me: "keep your pack I have a special project for us" Before the trees line He take a bearing and tell me it was too long time You do not past directly from Skylight to Redfield".

O.K. but stay always your nose in the compass I do not like go down in Panther Gorge!! It was not always in easy open forest but It was nice to go by this way without visibility. We are in the cloud in Redield summit and We passed the top without see the yellow marker. We need to come back when we started to do down in the other side. We find the plaquette and when I eat 2 bars and drink, Junior play with the map and the compass. I was ready to go down by the usual path but Junior have a other plan. "Keep this bearing 274 degre We will catch the brook and go down directly in the col between Redfield and Cliff, the next goal the East slide of CliFF!!!" Are You serious Junior We never go up by this way???

"Lets go, do not take your chicken attitude, :D You have your crampon if We will find icy place". The forest was not soo bad and We need to take care few place was in open water in this brook.

When We go up the slide, It was near the limite for the MSR crampons snowshoes. I was happy to see a old pink tape near the top of the slide. Less of 5 minutes later We are in the Cliff summit. Junior tell me: "go in the left direction." O.K. few time after We started to go down I do not recognise the place, stop and check the map, take a bearing. Junior was grumpy. "You do not trust me???" Not alway after the trouble in the last Emmons trip I prefer to be sure You haven't your head in the cloud. Junior: "We have both the head in the cloud!!!"

But We are in the good direction and few time after I can see the flowed land white spot. We need to cross in the water the brook to find the trail in the other side.

We are able to past in the Colden and Avalanche lake, except near the place where the water strat to go down, Met Margaret, the assistant ranger in the second lake and without other story go out.

We need 10 hours 21 minutes for this nice day hike.

P.S. The 5 monster was Marcy, Gray. Skylight, Redfield, Cliff, If You do not know what to make tomorrow You can stay in the Junior snowshoes tracks and made the same trip!!! ;)

I'm afraid if I keep reading your trip reports this is going to make sense to me!

I expected the Skylight to Redfield traverse but you surprise me with the Redfield to Cliff then continue down move. I think Tom H would even be surprised by that one.

Was the flowed lands not good to cross? Why did you have to go thru the water? Couldn't head North?
:)

flowed land

Hi ColdRiverRun.

I just take the decision to do not stay in the East side with the only possibility to cross by the hang bridge.

Thank You to read the Junior story. ;)

All Hail Pinpin Junior!

Pinpin Junior, I salute you! There is no one else on this board who cracks me up the way you do! I love reading your stuff, and it's really the bomb when read aloud!

I took four years of high school French, so I can respond: Merci pour les mots tres hilarious! Encore!

By the way, nice legendary hiking record.

A day without a smile is same a summit without view, You can appreciate but You haven't your mouth open by the splendid moment.
Yesterday the view from Dix stop me...WWWHOOOO. but it was miserable on Macomb, just drink and restart.

Yes, it's very easy right now as we can walk just about anywhere. Three in our group (we stayed at Peggy O. over the weekend) went to Tabletop via the HOpkins trail on Saturday, bushwhack section took them 55 minutes as they went around too much and back out they met at a much lower elevation the Hopkins trail in less than 40 minutes. On Lower and Upper Walk Jaws I could walk just about anywhere off in the woods hardly putting a dent on the thick crusty cover. On Friday above the 3500' elevation it likely received a good coat of freezing rain which was covered by less than an inch of sandy snow.

Trip report

It's always a pleasure to read Pin Pin Jr.'s trip reports. I'm afraid I can not follow in his foot steps. If only I were a rabbit or may be a randon scooter than I would track you down, you silly rabbit.

Happy trails.....
