Wednesday, August 18 was a perfect day for a there-and-back on the Hunt Trail of Mt Katahdin.

I love love love the different colors of the grasses and plants above tree line...

I think the pics will have to do most of the talking for this one. It was simply a spectacular day. I was glad to have been somewhat conditioned for all the climbing; it's a hell of a hike every time. :D

There is so much more of Baxter that I need to explore. This was my third trip up the Hunt Trail and it is tempting to keep returning, but maybe next time I need to check out the Traveler Loop...

Wow. Such nice shots. I was just showing my kids pics of the Big K this morning (priming the pump for a road trip next summer, LOL). I'll have to show them your thread in the morning. They'll like it.

Wow! Very beautiful images. I really like the picture of the alpine grasses as well as the ridge picture. Thanks for sharing

happy trails :)

Really nice. Awesome place!:)

Bucky and Peakbagger -- Counterclockwise Traveler Loop, noted! Thanks for the recommendation. Will have to talk to you more about the terrain sometime. Hopefully someone will want to come along...

forestgnome, mirabela, Barkingcat, Maddy -- Thank you. :> Perhaps will post a few more on my blog, later.

A terrific set of photos on your way up to Baxter Peak. Narrative was not necessary. BSP is a wonderful hiking area. We've hit the "Peak" via all trails with one exception; the Cathedral Trail.

Donna:)

Nice pics, unstrung. And Traveler Loop, definitely CCW and bring plenty of water. Once you leave the pond there's nothing until you are on your way down North Traveler. Here are my pics and TR from my loop last year if you want to get a sense of what it's like. Don't fear it, I don't know why the AMC guide and the rangers make it out to be this big scary thing. It's just a nice rugged day hike. I went solo, no problems.

Nice pics. I did the same route on the same day. Wonder if we saw each other?

Beautiful!! We had this one planned for this fall and got sidetracked (by a bunch of stuff). Seeing this makes me that much more determined to get there soon!! Thanks for the push...

Jimmy & Little, I've never done Cathedral either. Approached it and then heard thunder (thank goodness?!) and so turned around. I like to think I would enjoy the hell out of it on a good day, but I dunno... Injuries/etc have had a wimpifying effect on me.

Veg, thanks for the info. I think I'd enjoy it more with company, mostly so I could split gas $ with someone, but a smattering of interesting conversation would be cool too sometimes. :)

Rik, probably!

1Happy and Mtruman, thank you. It's a special place, indeed.
