Is there a bike forum here???
Did a shakedown tour on my Salsa to prepare it for a longer multiday tour in the fall, figured what better way to see where I live than by bike. So I took off on a clockwise bike around Greylock. Short enough to me to do in 1 day, but not as much fun and I wanted to try out my front rack I got for Christmas last year. Thought I'd bike up to Clarksburg State Campground on Mauserts Lake except by the time i got there, all walk in sites were booked and so was Savoy, my backup camp. However, after a few calls at the park, we found that Historic Village campground in North Adams had spots. They are a city owned campground and I guess not a lot of people know about them because they are not a state campground. I had the entire wilderness area to myself and paid less than the city of campers in the developed sections.. Bonus.
Took a ride downtown to check out the area and then stopped at a pizza place by MCLA to get food before going back up the steep hill to my campsite to lounge and retire for the night.
Was thinking of checking out the Natural Bridge state park but couldn't find the entrance on my way from Clacksburg. Turns out i was on the wrong side of the park, the entrance appears to be off Rt 8 and not Eagle Road
Anyway, early start sunday, figured i'd beat the predicted afternoon storms and took off around 7am... nice sunday morning ride down to North Adams to pick up the Ash trail which I know I can take all the way to the Berkshire mall. See a few cyclists and walkers out on the railtrail but pretty quiet at 8am in the morning... Stopped by the one ice cream place in Cheshire that I know of but it was closed... Damm.
going through pittsfield was interesting, I snaked my way through Tractor Supply Corp to get to Tyler then made a left onto Plastics Ave to stop by GD before snaking my way west to the Berkshire Medical Center then cross North st to a road to get back to West st..
Fun trip, took a leisurely 65ish mile loop in 2 days..
