I started off Monday morning at Lincoln Woods hoping to do the 3-day traverse from Lincoln Woods, Guyot, 13 Falls, back to the woods.
Day 1 - The trails leading up to Bondcliff were in fairly good condition with some minor blow-downs but nothing a little agility couldn't handle. The three river crossings on Bondcliff were no prob. I made really good time, leaving Lincoln Woods at 8am, reaching Guyot at 4pm. Could have done better but the snow was much heavier than I had planned on. Snow started patchy around 3,800 ft on Bondcliff and grew steady as I approached the summit.
The open ridge from Bondcliff to Bond was clean and beautiful on this clear and sunny day. Although the snow quickly came back (around 2-3 feet) as soon as the tree cover returned. I enjoyed a quick lunch on Bond summit and headed to West Bond. The trails from Bond to West Bond junction (and all the way to Guyot for that matter) were completely snow covered. I really should have brought the snow shoes I had sitting in my trunk back at the parking area. What an idiot! I weight a solid 220 and had the 40lb pack on, so needless to say I was falling through quite a lot.
After enjoying the view from West Bond overlooking my previous travel route (one of my favorite views in the Whites) I started to make my way to Guyot. I broke one of my trekking poles along the way so that was a bit discouraging.
I arrived at Guyot around 4-430 and settled in to the picturesque cabin/shelter at site 1. I hung up my wet gear and spent the night writing and listening to an audio book (Stephen King's 'Under the Dome') while watching the beautiful sunset.
Day 2 - Awoke with the sun With only 1 trekking pole and no snow shoes on my person I decided to re-trace my day 1 steps and head back to Lincoln Woods. I'll head back in a few weeks and do the Twin way from the North. Overall a great trip!
