Thought some of you might enjoy this-- last weekend I got out on my snowshoes and microspikes for the first time this season, one trip to Glastenbury Mountain in Vermont, and then a dayhike to North Kinsman. Great weather, if a bit chilly on sunday morning (-18 at camp), and good times. The Kinsman pics and report will be up tomorrow.

I'm hoping the fire tower falls down so I don't have to hike it! :D

At 23 miles RT, it will be a challenging day hike!

No! That's one of the best views in Southern VT! Stratton and Glastenbury are my favorite spots on the AT in Vermont.

The shelter right by Glastenbury is one of the best places to go for an overnight with a great view of sunrise... well, 0.2 miles from the shelter to the fire tower. Can't be beat!

That was my favorite shelter on the Long trail. My two favorite backcountry sunrises so far have been there, and at Guyot shelter.

If you like Glastenbury, then you should read this book:

My grandfather supplied many of the photographs used in the book. Also, John Harbour (my great-great-grandfather) is a focus of one chapter. He was murdered on Glastenbury Mountain on the first day of the first "official" deer season in Vermont.

Very interesting! I'll have to look into this book. Vanished NE towns are a pretty interesting piece of history, I think.

I definitely appreciate campsites with easily accessible sunrise spots. Guyot is phenomenal as well!

Wow, that's some cold weather lightweight backpacking! Beautiful pics. What sleeping bag do you use Ryan? Or do use a quilt

nice job

Petch: I used a new EMS Mountain Light Zero bag, along with my puffy jacket, down pants, and all my extra layers :) Review of the bag is coming up next week.

Audrey: My first experience on Bromley was 2007, so I guess I'm too young... Sounds like some of the AT shelters in the south.
