My hiking partner (Steve) and I were going to do a bushwhack today in the Waterville Valley area. But, we got out of our cars, took one look at the brilliant deep blue sky, and immediately opted to do an about face and hike up to Tecumseh. It was right there, beckoning us, and nearly reached out and grabbed us.

We hiked up the Mt. Tecumseh Trail from the ski area. Other than meeting a large party of 10 or so hikers who were descending as we were ascending, our trip to/from to the mountaintop was uneventful. And although the thermometer on Steve’s pack was around zero degrees (sometimes plus, sometimes minus) for the entire day, it really didn’t seem overly cold. (But it would have been a different story if it had been windy!)

We got some great views from the east outlook toward the Trypyramids.

We also got some fantastic views from the north outlook toward the Franconia Notch region, and western edge of the Pemi.

And there was a nice view of Tecumseh’s summit cone from the Sosman Trail.

Brrrr!! :D Those are some beautiful shots! Maybe someday I will be so brave as to attack a 4k peak in subzero weather!

Nice trip report, John! Once again, we came really close to bumping into each other on the trails! I almost went to Tecumseh instead of Cannon!

Lovely! I so admire your pictures, wish I was as good a photographer as you and many of the other VFTTs.

Congrats on a lovely day!

Wondered where you two would end up :)

It turned into a glorious day ! Steve & I kept saying "where is the wind?"
It must have stayed above 5000', as we didn't feel anything more than a soft breeze over on Whiteface & Passaconaway.

The Moose prints were plentiful on Blueberry Ledge, and the lower circuit trails have been traveled heavily by snowshoes in that wonderful area. Great day to be out.

was there

Very nice photos. I was one of the 9 that pased you. We were traveling at light speed on our decent. Even with the cold temps I was soaked by the time I returned to my car

Good to hear you had a successful “jaunt” over on Whiteface & Passaconaway. Steve said you guys were over there . . . even got out the binocs to look for you on the little tip of Passaconaway we could see from Tecumseh. :D

You do a good job with your photos. And really, with the subject matter we have available here in the Whites, it’s easy for all of us to get “professional” shots that many folks in many parts of the country would die for!!

Once again, we came really close to bumping into each other on the trails! I almost went to Tecumseh instead of Cannon!
It would have been terrific if we had both ended up on Tecumseh, but you certainly won the “uniqueness award” for your Cannon via Mittersill adventure.

I don’t believe for a minute Chris that you’re lacking for bravery. I’ve seen some of the TRs you’ve filed!

It is always somewhat amazing to me that a decent sweat can be worked up, even in frigid temps like we’ve had recently. However, throw in a little wind, and that often cures the sweating problem!!:D
