Anybody have information about which roads are plowed/closed in the area of "the Landing", off Rte 16 between Stratton and Rangely, Maine? Is this a good approach to East Kennebago in the winter?

A few of us want to bag this peak this Friday if possible. Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks.

I've checked this area in past years. It is used by snowmobiles. I'm guessing it would be tough even finding a spot to park, as I doubt you could drive on the skimobile track with all the snow?

I'd plan on digging out a spot to park on the side of the road. Then if you were able to drive in and park, it would be a plus :D

If you go please post a report. Don't get much out of Maine, unfortunately. Good Luck!

I've done East Kennebago twice in winter, most recently 5 or 6 years ago. Both times we were able to drive in about one mile to the parking spot (red cross). Consult the latest Maine AMC guide book for the logging road and suggested bushwhack descriptions beyond that point. It should be up-to-date unless roads/conditions have changed in recent years. Suggestion: use X-C skis for the 5 mile road trek.

Thanks for the input. I will post a report on our activities this weekend, whatever we do. DocRoss
