My gut is telling me no... but my gut is also very
Identify the scene. Please don’t answer more than one a day; give others a chance.

(I didn’t make it to the Catskills this year. Actually, not the last three years, so my apologies to those of you whose bailiwick is farther south.)

I guess this one was a little tougher than the New Hampshire quiz I posted right after this one. You’ve identified half of them so far.

1. Van Hoevenberg Trail just northwest of Marcy Dam
2. ?
3. ?
4. Bridge on Scarface Trail
5. No, not Hurricane.
6. ?
7. Allen
8. Colden from Indian Falls
9. Colden etc. from Phelps. Right on the money, Audrey.
10. ? That was the one photo in the bunch taken as far back as 2007, but I doubt it has changed much in the last year.

I just noticed that my 1980 ADK map calls the trail Van Hoevenberg and the mountain Van Hoevenburg. I think the E is correct.

#3 appears to be some kind of property line survey marker. My w.a.g. is that it marks a boundary between the Adirondack Loj property and State of New York land somewhere around Heart Lake.

The 19/22 inscription probably indicates the year of the line survey. At that time, if I am not mistaken, the Adirondack Loj property belonged to the Lake Placid Club.

2. Fire tower... stairs missing.... Hurricane tower?
5. I think ADKdremn is right - Upper WJ?
6. (edit) DEC sign post at parking lot just over the bridge on Coreys Road (trail to Raquette River)

I thought Number 5 would be one of the easy ones, but I guess it’s not. Wolfjaws and Hopkins are both wrong. You folks couldn’t have known this, but I finished my Forty-Six almost exactly a year before I began using a digital camera, and as I don’t own a scanner (to convert my old slides or prints), or had enough reason (or taken the time) to revisit about half the peaks since my dear old Olympus OM-1 died, the Great Range, among other mountains, remains captured only on film.

ALGonquin Bob has correctly identified the Hurricane Mountain fire tower for Number 2. I wasn’t sure if the removed steps was a common feature or not, but thought it might be enough to identify the tower by. The sign post in Number 6, however, is not at Coreys.

Bhoody and Mark (with his original hunch) are correct with South Dix for Number 10, and Grumpy is remarkably close with his deduction for Number 3. I had thought of offering this picture

as a hint for that one, because one scene is above the other, but I thought it would make it too obvious. I am sure you now all recognize that #3’s location is right at the beginning of the herd path to Street and Nye.

There are still two awaiting identification:

1. Van Hoevenberg Trail
2. Hurricane Mountain fire tower
3. property marker on Street-Nye herd path
4. Bridge on Scarface Trail
5. ?
6. ?
7. Allen
8. Colden from Indian Falls
9. Colden, Avalanche Pass, MacIntyre Range from Phelps. (One I reclimbed just for the heck of it in September, along with Table Top, after climbing TR Mountain.)
10. South Dix/Carson
