Great Range From Pyramid Peak

Some images from a Sunday saunter over the Great Range, taking the Ausable Lake Road, Alfred Weld Trail, Range Trail, and out JBL.

Lucked out with some great light just as a bit of sun started to shine on Rainbow Falls, a little after 6am.

A very nice day for a traverse - no black flies, light winds, and a dry trail.
Not counting the several dozen greasy chimneys and slime-slathered slabs, of course...

The "new" cables on Gothics are very user-friendly with their sleek rubber garden hose sheathing. This is the slab above the cable section.

I came hoping to get some good pix of Marcy, but she was brooding under thick clouds when I arrived at Little Haystack.
Operating on two hours of sleep, waiting for the slow moving clouds to pass proved the equivalent of imagining sheep jump over a fence, and I was soon napping on a gravel patch for a good hour.

Marcy eventually came out for a short lived and not very dramatic appearance before the overcast thickened once again and sent me packing back down to JBL and the Garden.

We were on Colvin that afternoon, and we noticed the same light conditions. Great views of Basin, but Marcy and Haystack brooded under cloud. Overall very nice day; great pics, Tim.

(BTW, the flies are in North Hudson. That is where they all went, both black flies and deer flies. I met with them on Saturday during a bushwhack, and they "explained" it to me. :)

So were our blood sucking pain in you know what "deer flies" around? Great shots. I just picked up a 5D and hope to get half of what you've got here.

T--thanks, very nice--takes me back--the view of Gothics from Pyramid was always one of my favs--almost like you could touch the slides
