Great day on Algonquin with some friends who drove all the way from VA for one day of hiking in the dacks.

we had 3" of new snow on an icy crust all the way to whale's tail. Need spikes or crampons from the waterfall on. the snow deepened to a new 8-12" at the wright junction and deeper as we climbed. There was plenty of snow up high. snowshoes were needed.

Great summit, though we had limited views as clouds rolled in. The wind was strong, but not extreme. Some waist deep snow drifts up there.

Equipment note: I gave the yak trax extreme spikes a try on this trip. They were lame. The chains broke twice. I'll be returning them.

Thanks for the pics, the video and the report, it sure gives all winter peakbaggers an idea of what to expect on Tuesday December 21!
