What's the story these days with Allen? Crossing Hudson? Lake Jimmy? Will I be able to do it in boots/gaiters or should I carry crocs?

How's the rest of the route up? Can you refill water bottles along the way, including up Allen side trail?

I would bring the crocs. And a towel.

Don't forget that there is also the Opalescent crossing further in, in addition to the Hudson and Lake Jimmy.

As for water, you should be fine. Skylight Brook is a pretty decent sized stream that you cross right before you begin the uphill climb on the last mile or so to the top. If you refill there, you should have enough water to get to the summit and back.

Turns out the designated Opalescent crossing is a bit wet. Immediately next to the moorings of the former suspension bridge is an easy crossing.
