AMC Gentian Pond Shelter Closed

The AMC's Gentian Pond Shelter (along the Appalachian Trail in the Mahoosuc Range in NH) will be closed for repairs from July 4th to July 18th. Tenting is still available at the tent platforms.

Logging on Austin Brook Trail

Hikers should be aware that logging is now ocurring along the upper sections of the Austin Brook Trail after it leaves the Austin Brook Road (logging road) and also along the Dryad Falls Trail. Beware of trucks on the logging road sections also.

Was at the Gentian Pond site Wed. night (7/13). Spoke with the shelter rebuilders and they were hoping to be done by Friday (7/15) which would be earlier than the listed (7/18). Looked to me like they had lots still to do but they are the experts and they work very long days! There are 4 tent pads but they have one for their tent so only 3 available and the overflow. Lots of Thru-hikers arriving now.

Its till pretty buggy in the evening. I expect most folks would prefer the tent pads.
