I headed up this trail for the Mountain Watch Bird study. Water is high. Just before the falls and Gem pool there is a wall of blowdowns. The winds over the weekend hit this area hard. There are many blowdowns in the stream.

I started up at four am. It was cold and windy.

I think any trail adopters might need an extra trip for the small stuff.

Hi Puck,

I'm headed up Ammo Ravine tomorrow to take care of this (what I can anyway). Can you give me a head's up on what to expect in the area below Gem Pool? Are alot of these blowdowns pretty good in diameter (8+ inch)? Just trying to plan how many extra blades to bring!

I was up there in April and got most of blowdowns from the start of the trail to Gem Pool. Hope to take care of the Upper Part of the trail as well with this trip. Thanks for any info.

The blowdowns that, I think, Puck referred to were caused by an avalanche sometime this winter/early spring.

This is what I came to when ascending the Ammo Ravine Tr.

And looking back from the top.

The photos were taken the 28th of May. That day there was a still a foot or more of snow only in this immediate area. Leftover from the avy, most likely.

I think you may want to bring a few blades. If not, a few buddies each with a few blades!! :)

The rest of the trail was in fine shape, what wasn't covered in snow up near treeline.

We all appreciate your efforts!

Thanks for posting the pics and info.

I had headed up with a friend in April and we took out about 20 blowdowns between the lower start of the trail and Gem Pool. I stared in awe at the avy path for awhile once we had worked our way up to it.

In the past week, someone (or a crew) had cleared the mess below Gem Pool in those pictures and done some other work as well (thanks!). It left me the time to focus on brushing from the station to the hut and clearing some water bars. I only had to remove 3 relatively minor blowdowns in that section but went out expecting a lot more!
