Whichway and I did the Falling Waters - Franconia Ridge Trail - Greenleaf Trail - Old Bridal Path loop Saturday, together with St'eve, Linda, and Blue the dog. We were Delilahless this time.

The trails were in good shape. I wore snow shoes in between the Shining Rock Spur and Little Haystack, and was on microspikes the rest of the day. The weather was fine as well, very warm below the treeline, and not too cold above it, but not warm enough to make the snowpack hard to walk on.

The views, when we got above the trees, were glorious. There were no clouds at all, just snow covered mountains as far as you could see, which was a very long ways.

The waterfalls on Falling Waters Trail were mostly covered in snow, but there was an impressive icefall over a rock by the trail.

When we got above the treeline there was a noticeable wind from the northeast, which made us layer up, but it wasn't enough to be a problem.

There were lots of people on the trail, which was no surprise given the near perfect conditions. We ran into Mountain Pa going the other way (and I'm sorry I didn't think to take his picture). Later we ran into LRiz also going the other way.

Coming down the Agonies there were a few tricky spots, and some glissading, intentional and not, but nothing as tricky as what we'd seen on East Osceola last month.

At one point on the Old Bridal Path we came across some snow shoes lying on the trail, with no sign of an owner. We weren't sure of what was best to do with them. We ended up hanging them up on a tree there, so at least they wouldn't get covered in snow if more fell before their owner came looking for them.

Thanks to Whichway for yet another great day in the mountains. It was also great to reconnect with St'eve and to meet Linda and Blue.

Lincoln and Lafayette were numbers 28 and 29 of the Winter NH4K list for me.

Here are the pictures.
