Hello and thanks in advance!

I'll be heading to Lake George, NY (staying in Diamond Point, NY) in July, and I would like to find some yummy trails that aren't too hardcore - my knees can't hack it anymore, and I'll be with a non-hiker.

I've done so much googling I can't see straight, but I'd really like to know if there's any super trails I should know of...

Hopefully something flat, hopefully something not too touristy, hopefully something by the lake...am I asking for too much?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

places we've been

Jabe Pond near Hague was very easy to do on a dirt road with our 2 and 4 year olds a couple years ago. Very pretty, and possible to go further (only a mile in from the road, down a dirt road with a gate). There was another trail betewen Bolton and Hague that left directly from 9N and went along the lake southbound that was nice, our little ones mutinied after about 3/4 mile but I would have loved to go further. The Tongue Mountain Range is much more ambitious but reputedly great. Keep in mind the tremendous flooding this week (in fact, I just heard that 9N between Hague and Bolton Landing is currently closed from a washout this afternoon). On the east side, Buck Mountain is a classic, and really not hard if you go up from the East via Buttermilk Falls Rd. It's harder to go from the lake level. Great views. I can't remember our reference for all this but I'm sure there are plenty of ADK'ers on this board that can tell you.
We should be in the Glens Falls/Lake George area sometime in mid-July and if you want to PM me I can let you know if we found out more.

Thanks so much, Weatherman!

My friend actually acts quite a bit like a 2 year old, so I think your advice will come in handy :)

I will keep an eye on the flooding/washout issues you mentioned. I hadn't heard! Hopefully things will be spectacular for my week by the lake!

Thank you so much for your offer, and for your assistance!

I suggest the trail along Northwest Bay from Clay Meadows. It has some very small hills but is relatively flat. It walks along the Lake in several spots and if you go all the way to the Point of Tongue (about 5 miles each way) you can easily make a day of it. You could also hike part of it and just stop and swim or hang by the water. One caution is to watch your step as there are Timber Rattlers in the Tongue area. The ADK eastern guide and map show these trails or PM me for more info.
