trails: frohock brook road, avery hill trail
conditions: i parked at the end of the maintained portion of frohock brook road in alton where the is a turn around with room to park. i walked a short distance (a couple hundred yards at most) up the road keeping an eye out for the trail which leaves on the left. look for blue markings and some pink flagging as there is no sign and it could be easy to miss. the trail is rather obscure and marked with blue paint of various shapes and sizes. down low the footbed is heavily covered in leaves, but becomes more clear as it climbs steeply up to the summit. some ice on ledges and rocks to watch out for. great views to the belknaps from the upper slopes.
equipment: blaze orange.
comments: a short, but steep hike with nice views. the trail doesn't seem to be heavily used, but can be followed pretty easily with care. nice to be out.
