Weird, gotta write the final chapter after 3 years....but with continued pressure from others to continue, another adventure will begin....Gas prices aren't going to kill me, it's the bagels!....they all come out for the bagels, even those Kanadians!

If you just want to see pics, here they are

http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2857181610065582691fJQlbD

How to write this, think I'm just going to keep it as short as possible....shout outs are in order from the beginning of this adventure to yesterdays..

Thx to Mrs. Coldfeet "You can go anytime you want, just make sure you finished up things around the house and set up schedules for whose ever is taking care of the kids!"

Thx to the Backpacker web site for leading me into viewsfromthetop.....thx VFTT for leading me into the Catskill 3500 club, and the adkhighpeaks site....also thx to the Boy scouts for letting me go on an overnight hike, loved it...and I took the bait...

Driving from Long Island to the Catskills is usually 150-175 miles one way....I did a lot of 1 day hikes...like many of you the mileage really added on very fast....350 miles, 7-8 hours driving to hike 6-8 miles was crazy, but I seemed to ignore that stuff and looked at the pictures I took and wanted to go back...Do (or due) to my children's activities I was limited to hiking from November to April...so it was real tough to stay in hiking shape....seems like I'm a slow to moderate hiker, no matter how often I go out...oh yea, 2 knee operations during the last 3 years does have an effect on hiking...

Enough talk....followed my 2 week plan and knocked off the five final hikes to end on the day of the dinner....7 peaks and 2 very sore knees...

Thx to everyone who joined me yesterday, Nicole, Rocky Summit, Mudhook, Snickers, Laurie, Tom, Jay, Al, Harry K, Ralph, Doodles, and Ron...what an awesome group, my wife couldn't have asked for a greater group to help this "rookie"...Being a novice I was in awe just thinking about the hiking accomplishments that these people have...I want to also thank Matt C and Funky Freddy for helping me out on many hikes....Also a shout out to Jack Cannine who took me on my first Catskill peak up Slide mountain...there are nice people out there on the internet (my friends though I was nuts going with a stranger, and so did I)...but I had faith in our fellow outdoors people...

The hike was nice, steep and a little to fast, "Slow down!" was called out a lot!...No bagels for you! It stinks being the last in line because after 12 people hiked ahead of you the ice and snow is so crunched up it was tough getting a foothold in that stuff! But the sun came out as we hit the summit....big guy up there was watching out for me...we split up after bubbly and made it back down, it's official!...Went for a viewandbrew beer, went to the dinner, congrats to all of those finishers, got the #1702!....Started the 150 mile drive home app 10pm and got sleepy driving, pulled over in the rest area, called home and told them I was taking a nap for app 1 hour.....started the drive again, got sleepy but made it home at 1:30 this am....now it's storming out...hope all made it home safely....

Thx again to all of you out there, lending a hand to a stranger at times....Giving the knees a rest for a few months...would like to get into the canoe/kayak camping stuff this spring....keep me posted.....David

Didn't come as it would have been > 400 miles for me and my sister was visiting, but I thought of you when I was out in the snow. If you listen to Snickers, now you will do them all in calendar winter.

Congratulations, David! It seems like it was only yesterday that you were first coming up to one of Peak_bgr's BBQs... :)

(the pics link didn't work for me, it said it was "outdated")

Congratulations, David! Wish I could have been there for your last one and at the dinner! And thanks to you for being such a fun companion and helping me out on our hikes also! :D

Nice, nice job!

Uhhh..Tom! You got a good woman in Laurie, there. I don't know if I would accept anything less than an everything bagel ring. :p

Audrey/Pat....thx.....I met some of the nicest people out there hiking...too bad we all live so far from each other...

pudy g....Catskill 100 highest?....na....but I want to see the Overlook and Tremper fire towers....My first catskill hike was up the Red Hill tower.......I also want to go back and see the slate chairs I think it was towards Sugarloaf..

Roy....thx anyway...and a few months ago I went to Minnewaska (sp?)...I'd like to go back there...

Michael J....I made sure I got some video of my finish like yours....but there was no fog on my day...cloudy but the sun came out when I was hitting the summit...lucky me..

Congratulations #1702. Job well done.

Just a minor correction on the trail name for the Dibble Quarry chairs. They are on the Pecoy Notch Trail, from which you climb can climb either Twin, Sugarloaf, or both. They were constructed by an elusive tribe of quarry gnomes, descendents of Hendrick Hudson's crew of the Half Moon. You might recall that they entertained Rip Van Winkle on the very first Catskill Views and Brews hike.

It's possible that bagel cost more than the engagement ring I bought her! :D

Long story... :D

Congrats to David again!
