I had a wonderful time at the film festival tonight !!! Met up with Liza and Charlie and Katie (bunchberry) and her husband Kevin for dinner at Diva (highly recommended) an Indian restaurant near the theater. After a yummy dinner with terrific company, we headed over to watch the show. Didn't run into Rick, hope you had fun, Rick but did surprisingly run into Dave Metsky . . .

The show was AMAZING !!!! The best film as far as I was concerned was the solo trip across Australia, I would say that is one of the top 5 films I have EVER seen !!! If you haven't seen it, find a showing somewhere and see it, it is worth the trip in itself.

Thanks guys for a fun night and I will see some of you tomorrow night for the Wednesday shows.

I was walking past the theater to dinner with some friends, saw a buddy standing out front with an extra ticket, and the next thing you know I was two seats away from Seema watching some amazing film. I probably knew 2 dozen people there, and I expect to see more of you tomorrow.

Seema - Oooops Mea Culpa!!!!
I had plans to go into Boston on Saturday to get a ticket for the Tuesday showing. As I was looking at a road map Saturday morning, I realized that Gloucester and the ocean were so close by and it was such a beautiful day, I would take a spin up there and see what it was like. Ultimately, I never made it to get a ticket. :( I apologize. I will absoultely be there tonight, though. :) I am looking forward to seeing everybody again!!!

It was a really fun night!

For all of you attending Wednesday's show:
-wear a t-shirt and bring a water bottle. Temps in the Mezzanine were extremely high and there was little/no air up there! I didn't think I'd make it through the last 15 minute film.

-although I always forget about it, the seats are similar to Fenway... those with long legs should consider bribing the owners of the aisle seats...

I really enjoyed Diva, the show and seeing friends. :)

Liza and Charlie arrived at 5 pm and found parking easily BUT Brian arrived at 6:30 and searched for 30 minutes before parking a 15 minute walk away. If you are driving either get there early OR bring your "rage control" :D

See ya tonight !!

The films were so incredible last night that now I'm wishing I had bought tickets for tonight! Maybe I can catch some of tonight's films somewhere else on the tour...I second Seema's opinion on the Australian film...very powerful and touching, made me think about the capabilities and possibilities of the human spirit to triumph against HUGE odds and losses along the way.

Thanks Liza, Seema, and Charlie for such wonderful company at dinner...I'm trying to lurk less and post more on this site, and I'm looking forward to some hiking trips with you all! I'm not much of a winter hiker yet, but we'll see :) See you guys around!

Yes, Jon Muir's trek across Australia was pretty amazing. It reminded me of the film several years ago about Goran Kropp's unsupported trip up Everest, starting in Sweden (!) which to me is still the ultimate Banff film.

I found parking just right in front of the theater at 6:55 by being in the right place as someone pulled out of a spot right on the street. Tonight I plan on being there earlier and hopefully that should mean an easier time parking. If you plan on showing up after 6:30, look for a spot as soon as you are in the same time zone.

Re: The Jon Muir film.

It was excellent -- I'm still trying to figure one thing out. He had several distance shots in the film. So did he set up a camera, walk a distance, hike and then come all the way back to the camera? That's a ton of work. It wasn't just one shot, but many long distance shots.

I also loved the part about him crossing the North Pole four months later!!

Jon Muir

Liza,
I think for some of the closer "long-distance" shots, like of him setting off in the morning, he would set up the camera then come back for it. But for the really far away long-distance shots, I'm pretty sure there was a paragraph in the movie that said he shot them a year later--that's why his dog was never in the really far away long-distance shots.

Thanks Seema - I have someone to take care of the dogs tonight and I just loaded the waypoints into my GPS :D I'm ready to ramble!!!!

The important coordinate is the one for the parking spot.

Spoiler Below! If you plan on seeing the movies later don't read the next paragraph! Spoiler Alert! You have been warned.

Re: the long distance shots in the Jon Muir movie - Any shot where the camera zoomed or panned was done one year later. Any shot where the camera was fixed was probably set up by Jon during the traverse and then retrieved. There were definately some shots taken a year later that did have a dog in them, I figure it was a "stand-in" dog. Oddly, I thought about that during the movie before learning that the Saraphina had died.

I'll be at Redbones tonight at 5:30 with another group of friends, but we're going to sit whenever a large enough group arrives to ensure we can eat before the movie.

It's yours! I'll be at Redbones around 5:30 if you can make it then, otherwise meet me out front around 6:45. I'll send you a PM with my cell number.
