Bear rabies

You rarely hear of bears having rabies but this guy seems a candidate for testing. Or maybe he was going blind.
The handgun didn't stop him, something I've wondered about. The police officer probably had a .40 caliber. Most cops do. The shotgun only turned the bear around and then he bled to death apparently.
Remember when the community only had to worry about teens hanging around the ice-cream shop all night?
