A very strong t-cell went over Franconia about 6.30 this evening, and I got a chance to try out the Beaufort scale, a low-tech way of gauging wind speed without instruments. Whole trees were in motion and trees uprooted so I'd say that at 1200' we were at Beaufort # 7 (32-38 mph) to #10 (55-63). It must have been wild on the ridge. My satellite internet connection is still wacky--won';t show any avatars, just red x's, and won't hyperlink text, so here's the Beaufort address: http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/scales/beaufort.html
