I don't have an answer, sorry, I'm curious too. I hope you post a trip report when you've done it letting us know how it is. :)

Haven't been up recently, but based on snow conditions in the woods bring crampons and snowshoes, who knows what you'll find up there. The climb up the falls is often very icy and it's certainly steep, so crampons are often the footware of choice in winter. Once up high there are frequent deep drifts (though perhaps not right now) that get deposited by the wind and if it hasn't been broken out can result in significant wallowing.

As Dave says, conditions can vary greatly. I've been up it a couple times in winter and turned around a couple times in winter due to not wanting to do the current gorge conditions when tired.

Much of the gorge section is sidehill and if you are snowshoeing you want narrow ones, but if you hit drifts on the ridge you want big ones :) The first handrail section is sufficiently nasty that there is sort of a permanent bypass that even crampon users often take.

There was still a fee tube last month although it was supposed to be removed, there is plowed parking .2 miles beyond if you don't want to pay.

i think i told ya'll, but a coupla years ago i was on the beaver brook trail and at that part where it flattens out and there's your first good view--where it makes a sharp right turn--i "sensed" a cougar. i really did. it was weird. they're up there.
