Janelle and I continue our march toward the 52 WAV and Sunday found us in Benton on Black Mountain. Did you ever experience the perfect hike, where nothing went wrong, the weather cooperated and the mountain gave you more than you could ever have hoped? This was it!
Our Trail Report and pictures from the hike can be found here: Black Mountain and the rare beauty of a perfect hike

Why do we do it? See below. This is why we do it. Unbridled joy!

If you get a chance, head up there on a perfect fall day when all the leaves are changing. The views are spectacular with all the changing colors. Also, right beyond the summit, there is a small beaten path that leads to a larger ledge area with more expansive views. I always head over there, because people tend to stop short of that. Great report!

Hi Grouse!
Yeah, you're right. We kicked around on a bunch of ledges up there, but there's soooo many of them who knows if we ended up on the one you have in mind. It's an amazing summit! We do want to go back and check out that view of Moosilauke in the fall, that would be amazing.

Black is a wicked understated hike. Go back not only in autumn as suggested, but in winter. The views are just gorgeous!
PS - love her hat :)

Hi Michael - Yes, I can imagine how nice that must be in the winter, mellow grades, good snow cover over the ledges! We will have to try it. And she got the hat for Christmas and is quite proud of it. I call her Little Rooster.
