Hi hikers,

The first metting with J&A was a litle bit special....We did not know J&A had a special warm up for his first High Peak!!! :D

We was driving in ADK road when in the first 90 degre right turn We saw a car out of the road and J&A showelling to remove the snow under his car...Fortunately 95% of the job was behind him. We need to help him lest of 5 minutes!!!!

We meet Pierre near the register and snowshoes on feet We started with a confortable pace before Avanche lean-too in a perfect snowshoes tracks.

At this place, unfortunately for J&A We was thinking He was behind us and in from of Pierre Junior take the decision to test the shape of the new warrior. just with the same small steps but a little bit faster.....

We stoped at the Colden junction and We saw We made a bad move Pierre tell me "I think You play at the coyote (the fox and the rabbit)"!!!???

Few minutes after J&A arrived without mitaine and He tells us He prefer to go for Colden.

With this bad move We lost a warrior...sorry J&A.

With the same perfect snow condition from this place to the Opalescent trail junction Marcy We made a good time, a little bit slow to the junction with Cliff path, the last people to snowshoes this part was probably ALG (Bod) 12-22-05!!

A small grove (the last Junior trip on Cliff) help us to stay in the usual path. We had a nice suprise: except in the blowdown section the last rain and warm weather made a better base and the progress was easy.

Lest of 4 hours from the parking (more of 2 hours lest of the 12-19-05) We can kiss the half plaquette  and under a nice blue sky We returned at the lean-too.

We meet Margareth the assistant ranger She tells us:" 4 peoples are in your tracks to Redfield" Perfect if the other people can use my humble work.

When We arrived at the Colden junction Junior push me in the Colden trail. It was in a perfect snowshoes tracks thank You J&A.
Few minute later We had a nice surprise: "Is He Pinpin?" Yes it is.
It was the Young Phill Allen always in a uncredable shape. I hope to stay in same shape later!!!

Little bit windy in the Colden summit, always in a great blue sky!!!

We returned with a confortable pace and We signed out after 8 h. 21 m to round trip for C & C.

Go Go Go every body need Cliff & Redfield You will have a nice winter path for a couple day before Mother Nature will erase the Junior work!!!

Have a great day.

Pinpin Junior.

P.S. For the new warriors they have a plan to come with us the 12-30-05 for Allen Junior learned in this day!!!! ;)

What's your intended route to Allen? If you don't mind sharing that information.

Thank you for introducing me to my first winter ADK hike, Pin-pin! It was not our dizzying pace that made me decide to head up Colden instead of continuing, it was the thought of having to keep up that pace for another 7+ miles (to Cliff and back)! I was extremely suprised to be back at my car by noon after such a long and strenuous hike. I saw Phil Allen and talked to him a little bit beyond Marcy Dam and he remarked about seeing Pin-pin's name on the register. Felt neat to be hiking with someone somebody knows! All in all, GREAT hike. Took a brief breather at a coffee shop in LP and headed up Cascade afterwards. Met an ADK photographer there (Rolf Schulte) and hiked down with him! Then a chance meeting on Thursday with Pierre at the Giant/RR col made me feel like a real ADK regular. Nice seeing you again, Pierre. Plenty of great people out in these mountains

Thank You.

Hi J&A,

Thank You for this reply....I feel beter now, :) I was not very happy with me when I saw You took the decision to go in Colden.
I feeel cheap at this time.
I am very happy You had beter time after in this incredebale playground.
I hope You will have other nice remembers when You will return at your home.

Take care
Pinpin Junior. ;)

don't feel bad at all! I was very happy to go with you and I appreciated the help getting the car out from the snow bank. Since it was just my first winter ADK, I guess it was not meant to be a bushwhack to one of the more far peaks. add to that, my boot was giving me terrible sores on the back of my heels. all in all, great time! hope to run into you or pierre again as soon as i can get up there again.
