I hiked Mt Cardigan on Sunday with Mattl and my sister. I haven't been feeling very well lately, so it was nice to get out again. We took the easy way up, the West Ridge Trail, straight to the summit. Along the way, we passed underneath trees and leaves that are really beginning to turn.

This really is a quick hike, and we were along the ledges with 40-45 minutes, and the views were spectacular. The valleys were draped with red, orange and yellow, and there were puffy clouds that added to the scenery. Plus, on this morning, you could see quite far, all the way up to Franconia Ridge, the Bonds, over to Mt Chocoura, the Lakes Region, and south and east towards Ragged Mtn, Sunapee, and Kearsarge.

The trip down was nice, except there were about 5,000 other people out hiking, so it was almost like a conga line on the trail. Still, I was able to get a few shots of the foliage without people in the way.

All in all, it was a nice way to get back into hiking again, during one of the most breathtaking times of year. Hope you enjoy the photos.

Also...I took a white mtn trip up the Cannon Mtn tramway, and then took the loop around to the cog, Crawford Notch, Bear Notch Rd and then along the Kanc with 45,000 of our closest tourist friends. It was a great day to do the tourist thing, and my girlfriend had never visited the white mtns before. I think she enjoyed the day. I took a plethora of pics (even for me) so even though this isn't technically a hike, I thought I'd post a few of them.

Hi grouseking

You really captured some beautiful shots of NH's fall glory!
A lot of times when non-hiking friends & family come to vist our Vaca home in Thornton
we do the driving tour like you did across the Kanc to Sabbaday Falls
thru Crawford Notch,
to the Cog Museum,
the Basin,
it is a wonderful way to introduce non-hikers to the beauty of the Whites!

(this way we can TRY to get them to 'understand' our passion with constantly wanting to hike these peaks).

Maybe your girlfriend will be enthralled enough with the beauty of the White Mountains to want to explore them more fully with you when you feel better!

Hopefully your visit to the Whites helped you to feel so much better
And NOW you have your beautiful photos to bring you back there any time you choose!

Thanx for sharing!

Thanks for the kind words! I'm slowly feeling better, though I'd like to get out on a larger, more ambitious hike this weekend. We'll see what happens.

My girlfriend definitely liked the trip, with one exception...all the people on the Kanc and Bear Notch Road! Actually I was surprised with the amount of people on Bear Notch Rd too...we took it because I didn't want to go thru Conway.....

Again, thanks for the comments. :)

Good Job!

Although it’s always terrific to be out in the woods for hours at a time hiking to “far-away places”, it’s often quite nice to do just what you did, i.e. do some less intense hikes, and simply drive to some scenic spots.

You took some spectacular snapshots, and thanks for sharing them with us.

Hope you get feeling better real soon!!

Thanks!

It was the first time I've taken an official tour around the major roads in the Whites. Though we didn't go to Pinkham Notch, or go into Conway. There wasn't enough time, and we didn't have nearly enough patience to deal with people in North Conway....

Colors are peaking around my local area, so hopefully I'll get out at least once this weekend and snap some photos.
