Was wondering why I never see any reports of hiking Moosilauke using just the old Carriage Road Trail? It's longer than the other trails at 10+ but is there any other reason?

Search this forum or go to new England trail conditions...did it 6-22-12...did it to Hurricaine jct., first part not that fun, other than that ok!! think my report on views was more detailed than the one on netc...sure the trail has improved in a year....

Think it's ok above Hurricaine jct just the lower part was muddy and blocked with massive blowdown (last year of course)...hope this helped

The majority of folks hike Moosilauke from the Ravine Lodge or along the AT (Beaver Brook or Glencliff). The Carriage Road got more end-to-end traffic back when the Moosilauke Inn was in existence at the trailhead but now there's not as much traffic there. The section between the Snapper junction and the summit gets lots of use, but as it's more of a forest road than a trail people generally use one of the other approaches.

In winter it's very popular to go up from the bottom for skiers, but also for snowmobilers.
