This is a great climb! The first mile or so is almost flat, through a beautiful woods. Then you climb fairly steeply 1600' to an open summit. Along the way, there are tons of views of Whiteface, Esther, Lake Champlain, etc.

The cast included PARidgeRunner, MuddyBottom, Snickers, Bushwhacker, HayDK and Nannie Goat. We had a great time. A lot of people were coming up as we were heading back down. This turned out to be a popular mountain. Even though the trail is not marked, it is generally well maintained and usually obvious where the route is. Numerous cairns make it easy to get to the top.

The whole hike took about 4 hours with a moderate pace, and a lunch break at the top.

Catamount is one of my favorite "low peaks." I especially live climbing up through the chimney to the false summit. It's a delightfully challenging and exposed little peak during the winter months as well.
