I moved to NH in 2003, retired, and thought I might like to take up hiking as a hobby. I think, at this point, maybe hiking has taken me! On my first hike to Eisenhower I met a Mainer, Dot (aka Hufflepuff), who had finished every peak with a trail in Maine, and had come over to NH to try some of ours. She encouraged me to work on NH 4's. We finished those in 2005, and, in between, worked on some of the NE 100. I got an itch to see what the Long Trail looked like so I started hiking it in sections. I finished that up last year as Hufflepuff finished the NE 100 on Big Jay! This September I finally caught up to her on Redington Mt on Sept. 18. I had left the 5 peaks off the Caribou Valley Road to the end, when I could find a good stretch of decent weather. That happened this past week. Clear skies and warm temps made each day better than the one before. My Maine friend, Hufflepuff, joined me for the last two days: Sugarloaf and Spaulding on the 17th, and finally Redington on the 18th.

There is a real benefit to finishing off a list or two (NE 67, too) on a 'trailless peak'--there is a cannister, and you can let the world know what you have just done! But, maybe VFTT is just as good, too. Thanks, Rocket 21, for sponsoring me. I'm working on the NH 100 and will definitely benefit from those who have trod before me on some of the bushwacks!

Congrats on finishing your lists!!

A nice story as to how the hiking bug bites you and demands your attention..

I was up in that section last year on a similar stretch of clear cool days..the walk out of CVR with the different flowers..some leaves turning..the shear remoteness of it all..was stunning.. A great celebratory walk for you I am sure :)

Congrats on your finish!!!

Glad that you had a great week with great weather for your hike.

Welcome to Views from the Top!

An awesome journey -- with many good friends met along the way. Life just doesn't get much better than that! Congrats and hope to meet you on the trails someday. :)

Congratulations and welcome to VFTT! Redington is indeed a fine place to finish the 67, but I guess I'm kinda biased, having made the same choice. Not a bad choice of weather, either!

Congratulations on a job well done. You've accomplished a lot in a short time.

Now come on over to play in the ADK100s and Catskill100s to round out your resume. ;)

Ah. . . . This is the reply I tried to respond to. Just getting the hang of the website. Thanks to all for the good wishes.
