Forecast is for a beautiful weekend--with lows in the low 20s overnight here, but then warming up towards Saturday. The cheapest gas I've seen this week on the I-93 run is the Irving at Exit 20, Tilton: 346.9 this afternoon (Thursday). If the price stays there, expect a short line. Go to the shopping center next door (further to the east) and pick up your Starbucks before you get in line.

As someone who regularly travels between NH and the Boston area I can confirm that the Tilton Irving almost always has the cheapest prices. Cheapest prices obviously lead to lines!

If cheapest price is your objective, I suggest you go to the neighboring Dunkin Donuts instead :D

Plus, if I remember correctly from a news article in the last year (I don't have a link), Dunkin coffee was preferred to Starbucks in blind taste tests.

Irving's (New Brunswick) business plan is driving Mobil (and Exxon) stations out of business; at Exit 20 they succeeded in knocking off the Mobil Station, but I think that the Exxon Station is better entrenched with their Subway shop inside. Gotta' love gas wars, especially at 3.46/gallon!

The Exxon station fought the good fight for awhile at 3.49 but for the past week or so has gone up to 3.59.

About a month ago I was heading home to Thornton and stopped in Tilton to gas up the rental van before dropping it off. The line at the Irving was insane so I turned around and headed towards Tilton because I was on empty and didn’t have a choice. I stopped at the Cumberland Farms and no one was there. Also, and this is gospel, the Cumberland’s price was 16 cents cheaper than the Irving. No lie, 16 CENTS! Now someone at Cumberland’s could have screwed up, yet 16 cents is 16 cents. So from now on I look at the price at the Irving before heading to Cumberland’s.

I think Exit 20 may become a prime hiking destination for VFTT'ers. Why bother driving any further north? Save gas. Just stay right at that exit, hike the Home Cheapo trail, walk the Sprawlmart path, meander around the McDonalds loop, and call it a day. No worry about car breaks; the car will always be in your sight line. No trailhead parking fees. Eat at Tilt'n Diner (cash, no plastic), gas up car, drive home. It's rumored that a major outdoor organization is planning to build a discovery center cum hotel cum
bar cum drive-thru oil change facility there soon.

They also have the huge advantage of being the first gas station off the exit, with the Irving slightly too far for their prices to be clearly visible.

Will definitely look at Cumberland Farms next time I head to Boston.

Don't forget BJs

If you're a member of that exclusive club, BJs -- don't forget that the Tilton BJs is just past the Irving (and the Shaws), on the right side as you go east. Their gas prices are typically a few cents cheaper for members for regular unleaded than Irving, though their premium unleaded is usually about par with Irving.

Depending on when you hit it, the lines at the pumps range from non-existent to a couple of cars ahead of you, but not usually worse than Irving, and often better.

Have you checked out this site for fuel prices in NH? I use this one for Maine so I can see what's going on in other parts of the state. I also add updated prices to the site from time to time to keep it current.
These are all sub-sites of http://www.gasbuddy.com, which looks like it covers all of the US and Canada. (The prices are all user-spotter reported, so of course they only have info where people have reported it.)

Today I finally went to check out Cumberland Farms. No lines (versus short lines at Irving), but only three cents cheaper.
