This is part of a general recall on peanut butter and pastes and foods containing them. FDA info regarding this peanut-related outbreak of salmonella here

It's important to know that the extent of the outbreak and possibly linked products is not yet known. New products may be added in the coming days.

hmmm...not feeling so good. I have a box at home that once had 8 each of two of the flavors (and sell by dates) being recalled. I now have 5 of one and 3 of the other...I think I ate one or two of them skiing last weekend. That said, I'm not eating the others...better safe than sorry.

For what it's worth, from the Clif Bar website:

"If you purchased the recalled bars, please destroy them but retain the BEST BY, SELL BY or EXPIRY DATE/DATE D’EXPIRATION code found on the back of the package. For questions or a refund, contact us online or call 1-800-CLIFBAR (1-800-254-3227). "

We had a whole case of mixed flavors including quite a few that met the criteria. My wife contacted them yesterday, so we'll see what kind of response we get.

The recall has been greatly expanded. More varieties of Clif and other brands of power/energy bars. Here's the rough summary:

…confirm that the sources of the outbreak of illnesses caused by Salmonella Typhimurium are peanut butter and peanut paste produced by the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) at its Blakely, Georgia processing plant.

Neither of these products is sold directly to consumers. However, through its investigation, FDA has determined that PCA distributed potentially contaminated product to more than 100 consignee firms, for use as an ingredient in hundreds of different products, such as cookies, crackers, cereal, candy and ice cream.

Product recalls include some pet food products that contain peanut paste that was made by PCA. While the risk of animals contracting salmonellosis is minimal, there is risk to humans from handling these products. It is important for people to wash their hands--and make sure children wash their hands--before and, especially, after feeding treats to pets.

Major national brands of jarred peanut butter found in grocery stores are not affected by the PCA recall.

There is quite a long list of products at the FDA website. Do take a look! You may be surprised at some of the items, such as brownie mixes, many brands of ice cream, cookies, crackers (all those Austin brand cracker and peanut butter snacks), even Ethnic Gourmet pad thai dinners, and Trader Joe's vegan pad thai with tofu, and spicy kung pao chicken.
