Trails were fine on the way up despite the previous day's rains, with the cloud cover lifting during the morning. Marcy and Algonquin were partially hidden by clouds, which progressively lifted. Our son raced ahead and was waiting atop the underpass rock on the summit ridge. Very windy on top; we had lunch and did "summit" photos in the lee of the balanced rock. Left after only 25 minutes; kids raced down the south slope, which was wet and slick as slug slime. We waited at the Lake Colden trail for stragglers and fed the insects for a while. Our son ran ahead and took a nap between the Hitch up Matildas. Avalanche pass and back via Marcy Dam were dry enough for our friend to peel down to socks (new, unbroken in boots!) for the return to the Loj. A pair of snakes were curled up on the dam in the afternoon warmth, very neat.
