Another opportunity to volunteer for trails in the White Mountain National Forest. The Saco District is taking a pro-active approach to the budget cuts. They have only one Trails Crew person this year. For Thursdays from 9am to 3pm in June, July, and August, folks can get out for a day with Forest Service personnel to learn and do trailwork. Details in the press release linked below.

I know there are many people who can't commit to adopting a trail. This is a good chance to get out there and help out.

Did I mention free t-shirt (Weeks Centennial T-shirt - I have one they are nice)?
16 hours qualifies for annual parking pass as well.

This sounds more like it's for kids than serious trail maintainers. They won't get much work done in Evans Notch or Wild River if they have to be back by 3. Why not meet at Wild River Campground and maybe they would attract campers who aren't going to drive to Conway?

I suggest people that are interested or have questions contact the Saco District or Cristin Bailey, Trails Manager (603) 447-5448 x112 [email protected].

I think there are lots of options for all levels. There is lots to do (lots of different trails) and it's not always deep in the wilderness. There is always the adopt-a-trail program for more advanced folks.

Also I've gotten a lot of work done in a few hours. I don't always work all day when doing trailwork.

More Good News

This is a great idea regardless of how MUCH gets done. Seems like the old "NH Trails Day" but on a thursday basis. Too bad we could not revive Trails day.
Trailwrights tried hard several times holding meetings and co-ordinating projects. T Shirts and other trinkets were given out. Regional Cookouts were held on a rotating basis. After a few years interest faded. Trailwrights has continued regardless and our Project this year is on July 16th. On the Mt.Pemigewasset Trail in Franconia Notch. Trails day has always been on the third sat. of July.
How about next year we bring back What Trails Day started out as. Called "White Mtn. Trails day"???;)
