Hi all,

Since many of us are interested in the hot topic of rescues in the Whites and NH in general, does anyone out there know of one source where every rescue call is detailed?

I check the NH Fish and Game website news periodically as it appears they would list them all here but I don't know that for sure and some of this info is seriously lacking in detail so only interesting to a point. Those can be found here:

http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Newsroom/newsroom.htm

You can also sign up for email alerts (Thanks for pointing that out to me Tim) here:

Appalachia archives for accidents can be browsed here:

http://www.outdoors.org/publications/appalachia/appalachia-archives.cfm

This is a good resource in my opinion for post accident details, however, it is not complete and the archives are less so.

Accidents in North American Mountaineering has an archive of statistical data by year here that is outstanding but often has little to do with NH:

http://www.americanalpineclub.org/p/anam-statistics

Where is this data for NH or the northeast for that matter? I think given the timely nature of recent discussions, I for one would like to see a complete set of detailed data on all search and rescue calls in NH. I think this would certainly shine light on any patterns regarding lack of preparation as well as issues related to funding sources.

Any thoughts?

I don't know of any such source and I doubt it exists. For instance I'll bet the staff at Monadnock deal with a lot of minor incidents and F&G never gets a report. (Andrew?) There was a recent incident where some kids got lost and called their grandfather, F&G would never have heard of this except he got lost too and F&G had to find the bunch of them :) What do you call it when F&G divers find a lost girl and the state police rule it a murder?

Thanks for the input.

I suppose following the F and G news may be the best way to find most of the info.

There is no single public resource that details all such incidents, other than some aggregate data that were presented to the NH Legislature on occasion. Many SAR missions are never disclosed to the public, for various reasons.

Folks have no idea how many times my ex-colleagues and I have gone through their backyards at night with SAR dogs .... ;)
