December 3, 2011: Congratulations to Bob Martin, a.k.a. “Wolfgang” who finished his grid (48 x 12) on Mt Jefferson!!!! Thanks to Hiker Ed for coordinating a wonderful hike and another big thanks to J&J for an AWESOME tailgate party of “griddogs!”
We took the Jewell Trail (start time 7:15am) up and over to Jefferson and returned for griddogs at just before 5pm. A large, happy group joined Bob on his final grid peak. It was an AWESOME day!!!! Along the way, we met up with Unadogger and Eric! In total, about 9-10 former gridiots joined in the fun.
Bob starting the hike:
At the lower outlook, we were awestruck by the breaking up undercast cloud cover:
Briefly, the clouds were like parallel strips and then they were gone a moment later!
The group: lots of happy faces.
Pausing to change layers. It was difficult to decide what to wear with all the warmth of the sun and light winds…. More sunblock anyone?
We’re heading down from Jewell onto the Gulfside. A colorful bunch!!!!
We had a chopper drop some 7-layer bars on the way… just kidding! It was on its way over to George. Bill brought the 7-layers bars – YUM!!!
Bob made it to the summit – just the halfway point for this hike since it wouldn’t “count” yet until Bob was down!!!! Congrats to Bob getting his patch from Hiker Ed in this picture. There were a few other people on top, but, we swarmed them and they soon felt outnumbered. Bob won “King of the Hill” today.
The group is almost out—a fine end to a fine day. We were just about out of sugar when we remembered Bob’s wife had provided a superb cake with a 48X12 grid patch out of frosting on the top. Totally AWESOME for the upcoming tailgate party!!!!
A final silhouette to end the day—the cog’s water tower – a beautiful end of a wonderful day celebrating with Bob.
Congratulations Wolfgang – an AWESOME day!!!!
