I was just curious. Things happen quickly sometimes in the medical/scientific fields. Was just wondering if something new had been approved or discovered.

Thanks,

One of my co-workers heard from her husband (he works for the MDC at the Quabbin) that the person that was bit is being treated for rabbies and that he did "test" positive for it. Also a lot of kids in the area use the shelter and throw out extra food into the woods.
I noticed that when I did a dayhike visit last summer. While there was no evidence left laying around, the log book seemed to indicate many users were leaving garbage behind. It's too bad too, because it is a nice shelter, just in the worst location possible. Less than a mile from a road, an all downhill hike to get to it, and no regular patrols/enforcement. I have a feeling this shelter will go the way of the others in central Mass on the Midstate Trail. Being so close to the river, I'm suprised they didn't install a composting toilet.

Call me paranoid, but I changed my plans for hiking a portion of that trail Sunday monring. There's just something about being the only soul in the woods on a cold, rainy morning with hungry coyotes (with no apparent fear of humans) prowling the area looking for food. Since I usually carry a few vittles in my fannypack for the dog, I thought it best not to tempt fate.

Just this morning there was a coyote walking past my house. Luckily my pups were inside. I think the neighbor's bird feeders --that he insists on keeping out this time of the year(18-20 feeders) might have been the attraction. Not for the bird food, but for the little varmits that come and eat the seeds on the ground. The Fish and Game offered to call him and try to explain that the feeders are attracting bears (yes those are attracted to his feeders) and other animals that should be foraging in the woods instead of his backyard. So camping in my yard may not be a good idea until those feeders are gone!
