Hi all,

Frequent lerker, first time poster here. Thanks for being such an entertaining and ambitious group.

I'll be in Laconia over the 4th weekend, at my inlaws. Because of various parents and grandparent b'day celebrations I can only get out for a few hours each morning. Any nice hikes/hills to climb close to Laconia (any driving time cuts into hiking time. I'm hoping for something really close).

Thanks!

Scott

Maybe hike up a ski trail at Gunstock? Or there might even be a hiking trail up it I dont know never having done it....just a thought

Go onto 93 North to exit 28. Follow RT-49 to Mad River road (left) then follow signs to the Welch-Dickey trailhead. I go counter-clockwise up Welch and over to Dickey. Beautiful hike, short and not far from Laconia.

Welcome to VFTT :)

Near-to-Laconia Hikes

I'd recommend Belknap & Gunstock (in Gilford), Mt. Major (in Alton), Morgan & Percival (in Holderness) all around 30 min or less drive time from Laconia. Three short hikes with nice views for a 3-day weekend. Let me know if you want more info! Enjoy,

Mark

If you do the Morgan-Percival you can even add in Rattlesnake. Its a wicked easy climb to a very cool perch over Squam (and a highly photographed one at that.) Only about a half hour walk up an easy to follow path. It can get a bit crowded, but its still a nice place.

It might not be as close as you want but how about Mt. Monadnock? :)

These are all good suggestions. If you want super easy (for novices who may want to come) Lockes Hill (Gilford/Alton) trails and Red Hill (Moultonboro) are good options as well. I have a place up in Laconia. PM me if you'd like to hook up on the trail etc.

I'll try again. How about Squam Range in Holderness. Some nice nature preserves in that area. My wife (who is not a hiker) and I have done some of these trails before and we enjoyed them. If I remember correctly the Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest had a couple of nice but small trails.

Should only be about a 1/2 hour drive from Laconia. :)
