I'm halfway through the list, and am trying to plan my next 15 or so and I got to wondering which one to finish with...For those who are like me or those who are finished, any thoughts on what you'd either like to do, or what you, in fact, did to finish your 4000'ers? Thanks.

Last

Greetings GNR -

I am not done, but have 28 to go. My plan is to finish on Jackson so I may be able to bring up some nonhikers to celebrate...it is a reasonably lengthed trail and not too steep. I am hoping to carry my son up with me, he will be 2 1/2 when I hope to do this in October. Mossilauke is also quite popular to finish on for similar reasons.

Good luck

I plan on finishing the list with my son on Washington so non hikers can meet him at the top for a celebration.

Like Kevin Rooney, I chose Carrigain to finish my NH48 -- for the very same reason. It was fun to look out and see most of the other mountains on the list.

I'm planning to finish my NE Fours on Hamlin... though it could end up being North Brother if the weather doesn't cooperate with me (which is not unusual!)

NH 48: Eisenhower
NE 67: Ellen, Vt.
ADK 46/NE 111: Colden.
My only wish was to end each list with a big view. Blew that when Ellen was my last dance partner for the 67 in '97.
For many of us, our last mountain is the one that's left on our list.

48 1st time - Isolation, seemed like the right place to end up (alone, in the rain)
48 2nd time - Carrigain for the view (snowed)
67 - will be Abraham, could be hail at this point

I've been saving and planning on doing Madison, Adams, and Jefferson last. I haven't decided on the order.

But, if the water crossings don't cooperate, my plans might have to change and I may end up with Isolation or Owl's Head as number 48.

yup...

I saved Madison for my 48th because that was my dads 48th and we were supposed to finish together. Didn't do that according to plan so the least I could do was finish on the same one.

Sarah is saving Mooseilauke for her 48th... because thats the one I picked for her.

I'll finish my winter NH48 on either Isolation or Bondcliff. They hold such beauty.

I was torn by which peak to finish on for quite a while as I wanted it to be super special. But I ended up just winging it and going on hikes to various 4Ks depending on weather, other hiking buddies' skeds, events (like Flags of the 48) etc. and ended up on the one peak that I thought for sure wouldn't be my last: Isolation.

In the end, I realized that any peak you finish on will be super special. :)

Cool Thread!

I have 30, and am tentatively saving Adams for last, only because it's the second highest and I already climbed Washington.

We finished our 48 on Bondcliff - up until we had only a dozen to go, we hadn't thought about. Once we did we decided we wanted the last one to be the longest hike with the best view. We got it!

For the NE67 and NE1000 we are saving Katahdin for last, so we can make it an extra special day and also celebrate our anniversary.

Winter 48 - No question - Bondcliff the first time - it will be Bondcliff again.

As others have mentioned, I plan to finish on Carrigain, probably this fall. I have climbed 36, the most recent being Passaconaway on April 9.

ADK46 - Colden. Waiting for my son to grow so he can join me.
NH48 - Who knows. Im only 7 peaks into it.
NE115 - Mansfield. I want to be able to see both the whites and
the dax. Also, this peak can be done by non-hikers.

NH48 - Flume (in snow and fog)
NE67 - N.Brother (with 4 others finishing the 67 also - 3 from VFTT)
W48 - Zealand!!
Trailwrights - Middle Osceola
solo48 - 2 more (either will be special)

Right now looks like Bondcliff for NH48. (13 to go)
Emmons was #ADK46 (didn't plan it), Grace Peak was 46W!
115 will be somewhere in Maine.

Wu-Icity is Difficult

The problem is, I'm doing one list: The Wu-List-Six-Hundred-and-Sixty-Six. I haven't tabulated what mountains are actually on it (presently, I have raised relief maps of the North East in my living room and the mountains my cat rubs up against are the ones on the list, but this seems less then precise) so I have no idea what one to finish on. Does it have to be a peak that I've never done before? Since I'm making the rules of "Wu-Icity" myself, I could just make it so to complete the list you have to do your favorite mountain one more time at the end to get the "prize."

I'm thinking Mt. Caubvick in the Torngats. Who is joining me!?

I Finished up my #48 on North Tripyramid :D . I had planned on Adams, but continous bad weather caused me to modify the plan and grab Madison and Adams together, earlier than scheduled. I had a semi-schedule but modified it to fit hikes with other VFTT'ers and a few AMC hikes that logistically were easier with a group (ex: Bonds/Zealand day hike traverse), the weather conditions, and the all important unplanned day off! :)

NH 48: Bondcliff
NE 67: Abraham in Maine

My wife and I planned a 2 night backpacking trip to Guyot for our final NH 48 hike. We wanted our last peak to have awesome views and we wanted to spend a lot of time on the summit. Since we were camping only a couple of miles away we spent over 4 hours on Bondcliff, 3 on Bond and 3 on West Bond. Luckily, we had a terrific couple of days in the woods. No rain and clear skies the whole time we were out there.

In hindsight though I wish we finished on West Bond. It's such a unique experiece on that peak. Almost like standing on the prow of a ship with all the mountains surrounding you.

Our NE 67 practically chose itself. We were chipping away at our final Maine mountains and planned a weekend to finish the Saddlebacks and Abraham. Since the trailhead for Abraham was on the way home we decided to save that peak for last. What an awesome mountain to pop a champagne cork on!
