Dix & Hough from Elk Lake

I am considering a hike to Mt Dix and Hough from Elk Lake and I would like some information.

Is there winter access to the summer trail heads at Elk Lake?

If not, where and how far is available parking?

Is the trail from Elk Lake to Dix Pond skiable for an intermediate skier?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

The summer trailhead is not available. You must park at Clear Pond and walk/ski the extra distance. The trail in is very skiable with enough snow. I believe the trail from Rt 73 would be shorter.

Ski in from Clear Pond to Slide Brook

I skiied in to Slide Brook leanto towing a sled a few years back. Even with the sled it was a very manageable ski. I think the skiing would continue to be manageable, probably without the sled, for quite a ways past Slide Brook (Hunters Pass Trail). Whether it would save you much time over other approaches I can't say.
