My Trail condition report from mid-late July should be in the conditions section for NY. At 8:30 there was still some spots in the Elk Lake lot. It took just over 12 hours to do Macomb & all the other Dix's & we stayed on top of Dix for about 45 minutes before going down.
Bring lots of water, there is none on top. I also heard to avoid going down Lillian Brook but in an emergency I would think it would be doable.
I like the Macomb slide (up 2x down part of it once in 1997, we took the worng herd path down & ended up in the woods coming back out on the slide about 1/3 of the way down. In 1997 you went done the slide more than today) & While I like going up Macomb first, I think descending it wouldn't be that bad either.
So I'd recommend up from Elk Lake, your choice of direction.
