A place I am never going.........

Nor I! Perhaps the absence of backpacks (mentioned earlier), is due to it being a short jaunt to a lookout destination of some sort and they shed their packs intentionally? I would!

When I see things like this, I think not only would it be scary (for me) but I also wonder about the people that had to install it!

I'd be hanging on to that chain pretty tightly, but I think it looks fun. I'd cross it in a heartbeat!

I would never survive a crossing like that. Even if I made it safely across my wife would kill me for going in the first place.

This is the reason why I guess it is some mountain in China. look at the dress in the picture.

"Now I must say that hikers in China dress very differently than American hikers. We were all in shorts, t-shirts, and comfortable shoes. The Chinese however were dressed for a walk in the city. For men, black leather street shoe were the norm though younger hikers wore light tennis shoes. Long sleeve shirts and black or blue slacks were worn by almost everyone. Very few jeans, and not a pair of shorts to be seen. Long sleeve buttoned shirts or polo style were worn by men and for a number of them a sport coat over that. I even saw at least a dozen or so men in ties! The women were similar; slacks, few jeans, long sleeve blouse, some tennis shoes, but a lot of smooth soled street shoes, some with short heels. ...."

anyway, Hua Mountain is very developed tourist area. Tons of people around. Just like Mt. Washington. When there are lots of people around, no danger, at least false sense of safe.

My son, who spent 8 weeks in China las spring had pictures of similar structures on some of the "sacred mountains" in China. On one peak you had to pay extra for the privilege of using a similar catwalk. No one had to sign a waiver, however. Looking at the sloes in the background it could be China, but it could also be Europe as well.

There is one of these critters at Nelson Rocks in WVA, south of Seneca. Uses steel cables instead of the linked carabiners(!), and has steel rungs at places instead of wooden catwalks. At one point there is a suspension bridge, maybe 100 feet off the ground and 200 ft long, between 2 fins of rock. Stops a lot of folks in their tracks!

This sounds entirely reasonable to me. Similar to what I was thinking so maybe it doesn't count. :D That whole brilliant minds thing.

The person who sent me the photo doesn't know where the photo was taken. He just found it on the internet somewhere.

Also, I screwed up and said Dave M and I think that it was actually Mike P that I was supposed to be talking about going up the Zugspitze, as evidenced in his earlier reply.

Still not any closer to knowing but several possible candidates have emerged.
I do appreciate everyone looking so hard though. :)

I found the place where I saw a picture like that. It is actually in the May edition of the Espaces magazine (an outdoor magazine in Quebec). The photo is really similar but for sure not the same location. So you can have an experience that approaches that not really far from you. Here are some links, but the picture I am talking about is not on the Internet.

Still sticking with Alps or Dolomites. Other locations mentioned so far in North America while they may have similar planks, chains etc, don't have the drop to the valley floor this picture shows or the surrounding peaks in the background. The China pictures do but some of those photos also show terraces which is common in asia for growing food, this pictures does not show any signs of terraces that I can make out. using available software I have I can zoom in enough on the first hiker, girl I believe to see what looks like a pretty hardcore pair of boots. While can zoom in more, I can't clean up image to read what is on her hat. appears to be some type of logo or writing. (I suppose if it's Nike, NYY, Red Sox or Pat's we won't learn anything either.

It's in the Altai region of Russia.

That bridge is quite probably more secure than any of the ladders crossing the Mt. everest's Khumbu Glacier.

I was reminded of a trail closer to Home
