Our spring vacation to Maine only allowed us time for one major hike in Acadia. We had hiked Dorr Mountain many times over the years but had never done this loop.
We began our hike along the Park Loop Road about a half mile from where we parked the car and would finish the hike. It was a beautiful slightly warm, blue skied day; perfect hiking conditions. Beginning on the Mount Kebo trail it wasn't long until was had fine views of Bar Harbor and Frenchman's Bay.
In no time we were close to the summit.
We spent close to an hour on the summit having lunch and talking with a few other hikers who joined us. Afterwards, we headed down the South Ridge Dorr Mountain Trail.
On the Canon Brook Trail we came across a beautiful waterfall.
Continuing along the A. Murray Young trail were many cascades.
We scrambled over boulders as we headed up the the trail.
The gorge that the trail is aptly named after is most impressive.
The path runs part of the way in the middle of the stream and crosses back and forth at least a dozen times. With the rainfall from the past few days it was fairly deep in spots. It didn't help a lot with the rocks being slippery too. At one crossing, Donna's foot slipped off the rock and she ended up mid-thigh in the stream.
We finished the 6.5 mile loop and headed back to the Highbrook Motel to change clothes then onto dinner at one of our favorite spots; The Chart Room.
