Well, I guess if you like a well-told account of an amazing physical feat, sprinkled liberally with humor and amazing photos...then I guess it was an ok trip report.

Simply amazing... I am in awe at the physical and mental strength involved in completing this hike! And your trip report is very humbly written. One might read it and think the day was a breeze. (Please don't tell me it felt like a breeze... I wanna believe you sufferd at least a little:D)

That's a Swedish fish by the way.......for a quad traverse we might use fermented Baltic herring. In Sweden we call it "Surströmming". See story:

The way it works is that you put one of them stinky fishes on a 3 feet rod sticking out behind your backpack. Nature then tells you to run away from it. Kind of a reverse carrot and donkey tecnique :D

An unbelievable day for the three of you for sure, and you came away with some gorgeous magic hour shots despite the pace. I agree with the others...we're not worthy!

Pace is like a color or frequency. Who's to say which color is better or more beautiful......

Mats it couldn't be said better as some days it takes me 4 hours to do mount major. Enjoying the time out side is what is all about!

Tim, you mention 30-40 MPH winds as you approached Pierce for the first time, where did you get those figures, guestimation from the Observatory records?

There's a funny bit in the Waterman's BACKWOODS ETHICS, that tells of experienced hikers guessing the wind speed to be very high only to learn that it was a mere 18 MPH.

Love the photos!

Before heading out I had listened to the weather service, which was reporting 40-50 mph winds at MWA. While I think it's true that many people overestimate wind speed, I would suspect that hikers who frequent the Presidential Range in all seasons have a more accurate sense of wind speed than people who only occasionally get blown about. :D Regular exposure to high winds and the presence of the Observatory to rein in any "fish stories" certainly help.

Not sure what they said on Washington where it was a lot calmer. We had issues keeping the balance and weren't surprised if the windjackets ripped in the wind.....you know when the flapping jackets sound like a machine gun......we could also see the foggy clouds moving up the mountain side at a very good clip......it was dramatic and beautiful :) And the best part was to come inside Lake of the Clouds Hut :)

Very nice story Tim, and great accomplishment !

I had the chance to be on the Southern Presidential the same day as you guys, after and before you were on those peaks. It was a perfect day.

What's next ?
