Has anyone done a bushwack in this area? going to be backpacking in the area and wanted to hit Isolation but where the Isolation trail is closed I don't really want to make a huge loop.

Where you're thinking about 'whacking is pretty thick and the topography isn't as friendly as the map makes it look; and the Dry River Trail is closed. I wouldn't recommend it.

Last Monday I did an out-and-back walk from the Cog Station to Isolation via Lakes and Boott Spur ( about 16 miles, 6000') and loved every step of it, though it might have been even nicer to leave a bike at the bottom of Edmands and come down that way.

I was sorely tempted to go exploring on the (closed) Isolation Trail west and Dry River, but I must be getting grown-up in my old age because I somehow resisted the temptation.

If you do go for it. Or whatever you settle on instead, be sure to post a report, eh?!?

I hiked the Isolation Trail between Dry river and Davs Path several years ago, and it was so overgrown that it could have been a bushwack.

I was hoping the upper part of the dry river trail was open, knowing that it is closed changes my plan a bit. Guess I'll figure something else to do. I still have two weeks till my backpacking trip.

If it helps any I ran into a group coming up the Davis Path from Notchland, and they said the trail was in really rough shape, so,that sounds like it might be a fun trip
